Tilt/Shift Cosmetics: Get Glowing Cream Highlighter - Review

So, I've been on the hunt for an awesome indie highlighter and have been making purchases here and there. In a previous review, I posted around Life's Entropy's liquid highlighters. In this post, I'm going to be talking about Tilt/Shift's latest cream highlighter!

Tilt/Shift Cosmetics is an indie makeup brand that launched April 2014. Located in South Carolina, the brand offers loose eyeshadows and lipsticks. They have several themed collections, with one of their permanent eyeshadow collections being a tribute to X-Files!

Recently, the brand started to branch out and released their first facial product: Get Glowing Cream Highlighter ($8)

When I saw the announcement of the cream highlighter, I was intrigued. At this point, I have never purchased from Tilt/Shift before and if I get the highlighter, it will be my first Tilt/Shift order ever. After checking them out, their products did have a pretty decent reputation, so I decided to give it a go.

My order was placed on May 4th, shipped on May 9th, and delivered on May 12th. It took 8 days to get my order, which was pretty fast.

Packaging

Look at that smooth new beauty.
The cream highlighter came in simple black tube with a twist mechanism at the bottom. The product label wraps neatly around the tube with the brand's logo and product info. It's nice and neat without any unnecessary colors thrown in. My only qualm regarding the packaging is that I might mistake the product as a lip balm. The tube used to hold the cream highlighter is the same tube many brands use for their lip balms.

The highlighter itself turned out to be a pale golden shade. I don't see any sparks or glitter, so I assumed that it would be more of a light golden sheen. It looks like something that can be pretty versatile against most skin tones when blended out, but more suited for warmer skin tones if you want to build it up.

Tools of the Trade

With this post, I decided that I will be blending the cream highlighter out with a brush rather than with my fingers. This is also due to the fact that the product is thicker and I wanted an even coverage when blended out. For this, I used Sonia Kashuk's Synthetic Flat Top Multipurpose Brush ($15.79) which works great with liquid and cream products!

Review

With the product's packaging, you can easily control where you want the highlighter to go. The product applies smoothly and it turns out that you don't need too much to get decent coverage. The swatches show that it is indeed goes on as a pale golden shade, something that some people might want to consider prior to purchase.

The product's formula is pretty light and upon application, you can easily forget that you're wearing it. This is a plus since I don't like makeup products weighing down on my face and it's also a bonus in the summer. It has always amazed me how some women can wear heavy makeup in the dead heat of summer.

Using the Sonia Kashuk brush, I blended the highlighter out using circular motions. The product blended easily and evenly with no evidence of streaking. As a side experiment, I have tried it over liquid foundation and it still blends out nicely. When blended out, it gives the skin a nice subtle sheen with tiny sparks scattered throughout to reflect light. You'll only notice the sparks if you look closely however. Depending on how much you blend, you can easily achieve a natural glow with the product. There is one thing to look out for however: you can easily over-blend.

That said, you definitely need to set the highlighter. Since it's so easy to blend, as I kept touching and brushing my fingers against the swatch, it just kept blending to the point that it's barely there. I would recommend using a setting powder or a setting spray if you want to keep your skin glowing throughout the day.

Overall, it's a nice highlighter. Very easy to use and to blend. For $8, it's not a bad price for the quality. It's very well suited for those with a warmer skin tone, but when blended out, it can work for other skin tones as well. If you decide to get the product, I highly recommend setting it or it can easily disappear especially during a humid summer day.

Thanks for reading!
